Sold as a pair, priced individually. From the artist: “I ran across a photo of a beautifully old wooden staircase that had the carpeting removed, revealing only the original 1930’s black paint running up the middle of each tread from bottom to top. Messy and awful and difficult— and beautiful. Scraped in the middle of each, but beautifully worm and waxed on either side where the runner had not been. It was the uncovering, that ripping apart, that made it more interesting. And in its truth, it is more beautiful.”
